When Feskekôrka Became Too Small
The photograph was taken in September 1920, just ten years after the Fish Harbour had opened as the largest of its kind in the Nordic countries. The reason was the larger vessels used by trawlers: unloading and trading in Rosenlund Canal had become too cramped. The new harbour was therefore built with halls, processing and transport in mind.

The story behind the motif

Fishing boats in the fishing harbor in Gothenburg. The photograph was taken in September 1920.

On September 12, 1907, Gothenburg's city council decided to build a fishing harbor at the harbor property Sågen (Vädersågen), the site of the old Vädersågen from 1725. Initially, the basin was 5 meters deep and on average 75 meters wide.
