Before Dagen H
The photo was taken on 23 July 1966, when Sweden still drove on the left. Just over thirteen months later, at 5:00 a.m. on 3 September 1967, the country changed sides in the major shift to right-hand traffic – Dagen H. The image therefore captures a traffic reality that was soon to be redrawn.

The story behind the motif

When in the 60s it was time for the police to choose a sports car, the choice was between the Volvo P1800 and the Porsche 911. The choice fell on the German-made 911 and in the 1960s the Swedish police had about 20 Porsche 911Ts as service cars for cases that required a little extra speed.

Today, according to the Police Museum, only 2 of these Porsches remain. But who knows, maybe we'll see the Swedish police drive a Porsche again?
