The story behind the motif
"Commercial considerations are fundamentally incompatible with revolutionary ideas" - Gabriel Voisin (1880-1973)
Gabriel Voisin became famous in the aviation industry as the manufacturer of Europe's first motor-driven and controllable flying machine. After the First World War, Voisin diversified into the automotive industry and built top-performing passenger cars during the 20s and 30s.
Voisin won the "Grand Prix de Tourisme" in 1922 in Lyon with a C3 touring road passenger car. The organizers felt offended by Voisin's somewhat liberal interpretation of the race's regulations and banned him from the race the following year. Voisin responded by designing an even faster, more superior car which came to be called the Voisin C6 Laboratoire and whose dashboard is seen in this photo.
