At the turn of the century, the fruit plate was an attempt to keep pace with a rapidly changing world of cultivation. In the project Svenska kulturväxter, the new varieties eventually became so numerous that a complete illustrated work was considered impossible. The careful depictions therefore also became a way of preserving knowledge of things that might disappear.
