The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting Spanish Blacksmiths from 1881 by Ernst Josephson (1851-1906). In 1881, Ernst Josephson traveled to Spain with, among others, Anders Zorn to see the great art masters and at the same time portray Spanish folk life through his art.
The Spanish Blacksmith motif was created in the Triana district of Seville. Josephson has recounted how he was asked by the blacksmiths if he could not paint them standing outside his forge.
Artist: Ernst Josephson | Created: 1881.
