The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting An Old Mountain Goblin by John Bauer from 1904. A trole from the mountains with long dark hair standing on a forested mountain. On the arms hang bangles as well as a knife, fork and a spoon. The painting was one iillustration to Gustaf Fröding's poem An old mountain troll i The Snowflake: the children's Christmas magazine.
John Bauer is known for his fairytale motifs with goblins and princesses and he has had a great influence on Nordic folklore and storytelling.
